Intrathecal baclofen in cerebral palsy movement disorders

Background:Baclofen and gabapentin have been reported to be efficacious in treating patients with chronic pain and other conditions associated with nerve damage. The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of baclofen in reducing nerve inflammation and pain after a single dose of baclofen in patients with chronic spinal pain.

Methods:A retrospective study was conducted to evaluate the efficacy of baclofen in reducing the pain intensity after single-dose administration. Twenty-five patients with chronic spinal pain (i.e., 10 with spinal cord injury) received baclofen 10 mg and/or 10 mg in addition to the standard dosing regimen. Patients were evaluated during the first and second weeks of the treatment and at the end of the follow-up. The study was performed by an independent pharmacy.

Results:Among the 35 patients, 15 (70.6%) experienced pain. The median pain intensity at baseline and end of the treatment was 13.5 mm (range, 8-16 mm) and 13.5 mm (8-16 mm), respectively. There were no significant differences in the number of adverse events. A significant reduction in the pain score was seen in 12 (75.8%) patients after baclofen and in 7 (36.2%) after placebo (P <.05). Baclofen significantly decreased the pain score (P <.05). The number of adverse events was low.

Conclusions:The findings of this study suggest that baclofen can reduce pain intensity in patients with spinal cord injury. However, the efficacy of baclofen may require a dose adjustment of patients on this drug.

Baclofen is an antispasmodic drug that acts as a gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) antagonist. Its mechanism of action is by binding to the GABA-B receptor, which is present in the central nervous system.Baclofen is an antispasmodic drug that acts as a GABA-B receptor agonist. It acts by increasing the secretion of a certain neurotransmitter (GABA). The main actions of baclofen are to inhibit the release of GABA from nerve terminals, reduce the excitability of nerve terminals, and inhibit the hyperpolarization of nerve cells. The main effects are to increase the activity of the GABA-B receptor. It acts as a partial agonist of the GABA-B receptor, which is present in the central nervous system.

Introduction:Baclofen is an antispasmodic drug that acts as a gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) receptor agonist. It is one of the most widely used antispasmodic drugs in the United States and worldwide.

Objectives:To evaluate the efficacy of baclofen in reducing the pain intensity after single-dose administration of baclofen 10 mg and/or 10 mg in patients with chronic spinal pain.

Patients and methods:This retrospective study was conducted at a medical practice in the United States of America and the United Kingdom, and was performed through a review of the data of patients with chronic spinal pain (including spinal cord injury) from April 2009 to June 2010.

Study design and participants:The study was a retrospective study. A retrospective chart review was conducted from April 2009 to June 2010.

In the 15 patients who received baclofen 10 mg and/or 10 mg in addition to the standard dosing regimen, significant improvement of the pain intensity was seen at all time points (P <.05). No significant differences in the number of adverse events, frequency of adverse events, or any adverse events related to the pain were noted between baclofen 10 mg and/or 10 mg, respectively, after treatment.

Baclofen is used to treat muscle spasms caused by certain nerve diseases such as multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injury or other meningioma. Baclofen works by blocking nerve impulses in the body, thereby preventing muscle contractions. The main component of Baclofen is baclofen, which belongs to a class of drugs called muscle relaxants. Baclofen may be taken by mouth, through a mouthful of liquids, or with a pill. The tablets contain 50mg of baclofen. You should take the tablets exactly as your doctor tells you to take them. To avoid muscle pain, take the tablets at around the same time every day. Do not skip any doses or stop taking them without consulting your doctor.

If you take more Baclofen tablets than you should, it may increase your risk of developing muscle spasms. If you become addicted to Baclofen, you can use Baclofen to relieve such symptoms as sleepiness, drowsiness, and fatigue. You can also use Baclofen to treat other muscle spasms caused by other conditions such as low blood pressure, diabetes or high cholesterol, or to prevent stroke.

It is important to note that taking Baclofen for a long time may make you feel dizzy or faint. If you become dizzy or faint while taking Baclofen, contact your doctor right away. Your doctor may adjust your dosage or prescribe an alternative treatment for you. This may include monitoring your blood pressure, and using your own blood pressure to adjust your dosage.
